Flowers look beautiful on any wedding cake. You can choose to work with a baker that will create pretty designs from edible materials, but if you really want to match your other flowers, why not go for some real additions to your cake? Here are a few things to keep in mind if you’ll be using real flowers for your wedding cake:
Not All Flowers are Safe to be Eaten
While there are many flowers that you can safely eat, there are also some that can be quite dangerous. If you are going to have flowers on your cake, make sure that you ask your baker about eating them. If they are not safe, have someone in charge of removing the flowers from the cake as you serve or use a different kind of flowers altogether.
Even Edible Flowers can Hurt You
Pesticides and other chemicals in our environment can make even edible flowers unsafe. If your baker will be using flowers, make sure they are grown in an organic environment that makes them safe for use with cakes.
Some Flowers Wilt Quickly
Sometimes, when flowers are cut they wilt quickly. This is magnified when they are clipped all the way to the bud and in a hot kitchen. Make sure that you choose flowers that have a little staying power.
