What better flower for the Buddhist bride to carry than the humble yet beautiful thousand pedaled Lotus. A lotus is a water bloom that is actually one big blossom so one big bud is all that you really need to carry down the aisle.
According to Beyond Blossoms, the lotus flower played a significant role in ancient Egypt. Every night the lotus sinks below the waters of the Nile and reappears and blooms when the sun rises in the morning. The Egyptians admire lotus flower as a symbol of the sun, of creation and rebirth. It is ideal to carry down the aisle as it can represent a love that is always self-renewing.
One drawback of the lotus flower is that it is not very hardy. They don’t last very long so they don’t make great table pieces for a wedding. They do make a stunning solo presentation as part of a bouquet. A white lotus is particularly holy to Asian religions. However pink and yellow lotuses are interesting choices for new brides as well. You can also get lotus plants with coin shaped leaves (to symbolize prosperity) or heart shaped leaves (to symbolize love.)
