Got a bit of the florist bug? Have you been looking at bridal bouquets and thinking “I can do that!”? Then why don’t you give it a shot? For brides who love to DO as much as they love to plan, a do-it-yourself floral set up can be absolutely paradise.

To be sure that you are getting the wedding of your dreams instead of a floral nightmare, buy more flowers than you need on the big day, and pre-order them so that they will be sure to be in stock when you need them. You’ll need to create the arrangements a couple of days ahead of time and keep them cool, so consider renting a refrigerator (or emptying one out if you have the means).

At least a month before the wedding, choose the designs that you want to create and attempt a couple of the most complicated. Use the real deal, not silk flowers, so that you know which blooms are prone to breakage and other problems. If it is too difficult or stressful, you may have to call a florist after all. Otherwise, enjoy a couple of hours surrounded by beautiful flowers, perhaps with an adventurous bridesmaid or two, creating beautiful centerpieces and bouquets on your wedding day.

Buy your flowers from a place like American Floral Distributors, which offers a do-it-yourself bridal package!

Bouquets made from tropical flowers are very popular nowadays, especially if you are actually getting married in Hawaii or another coastal resort location. The Maui style of wedding means putting flowers everywhere On the site Maui Wedding Flowers there is a comprehensive list of everywhere you could possibly include flowers for this type of floral-centric wedding. For one thing all of the guests can wear lies and these can be made from anything from carnations to roses to ginger. The entire women whorl also wears flowers in their air and also as corsages. The men of course wear blooms in their lapels. The perfect Maui wedding day would also include flowers laid out on your napkins, flowers in the powder room, a cake centerpiece made out of nothing but flows, garlands and open ended leis, a petal carpet furor the bride to walk on and flowers draping down the back of every guest’s chair.

If you are feeling “royal” about your wedding, blogger Rita Elliot has featured a great bouquet for the Jamaica Gleaner. The idea is to create beds of carnations that are a deep pink in color (which looks purple). This is a bed of blooms in full bloom that are the base of the floral display. The stems anon the carnations are left long and full. The second tier of blooms is a deep blue or purple rose that are barely budded. The entire thing is filled out with tufts of ferns. The effect is very contemporary both in terms of color and in terms of the natural flower treatment, which has to do with leaving the stems very long. What is also nice about this type of bouquet is that it reminds us of the possibilities that an arrangement with flowerbuds can have for adding beauty and distinction to the wedding table. Furthermore if flowers are buds your guests can take them home where they can blossom later.

This is the big ball of orange, yellow and pink blooms in the old fashioned vintage hues. The ranunculus is a beautiful flower that comes in many varietites and hues of color. The leaves are layered in such a delicate manner that they add a unique softness to the other more popular flowers.

To keep this look contemporary the idea is to put them in a clear crystal vase and stay away from ceramics or china with gold trim that can make this wedding centerpiece seem outdated.

In other words there can be a lot more to decorating a wedding with florals other than just providing tables with a few centerpieces and bouquets and corsages for the wedding party. For instance many brides might want to give thought to draping the aisle with garlands of flowers or consider walking on a bed of blooms that has been sprinkled on the carpet or on a bed of grass.

Pew bows decorated with flowers are also a nice touch and show that you have gone to a lot of expense to create the wedding. You can also decorate the backs of chairs with slipcovers with pockets from which hang blooms or actual floral centerpieces. For a really nice touch try hanging trailing blooms from lanterns decorating the reception!

According to wedding website, links2 love, one of the hottest combinations for wedding bouquets this year is still the lavender and yellow combination. Particularly beautiful is the Sunflower and lavender orchid combination. These can also be mixed in with roses for an even more luscious effect. The sunflowers are a hip youthful touch while the roses and orchids lend the entire bouquet a touch of class. This type of bouquet looks beautiful with a lavender dress, but even more stunning with a bird that is actually wearing a bright yellow dress. Yellow and gold wedding dresses are more popular this fall than they have been in decades so looking at a bouquet that has sunflowers in it is a good idea. The yellow element in a lavender and yellow bouquet does not have to be as noisy as one that boasts the large nodding heads of sunflowers. You can also make a nice tightly wrapped bouquet out of lavender and yellow roses or orchids. Some varieties of orchids also have streaks of lavender or purple in their blossoms and look nice as boutonnières for the groom or as wrist corsages.

For instance, it is traditional for the bloom in the groom’s lapel to match one of the blossom types in the bride’s bouquet. Usually, the boutonnieres for the groomsmen will also match with the bridesmaids’ bouquets. You should also choose flowers that blend with the lapels of the groom and groomsmen’s wedding attire. You will also need to choose flowers for the ushers, ring bearer, fathers and grandfathers. To get by all of this the idea is to keep it as simple as possible. Choose one kind of orchid, lily or rose and just make it an element of every bouquet or corsage that must be worn. One of the simplest colors to choose that should also coordinate with everyone’s outfits is white. White roses, therefore, are probably the way to go if you want to keep everyone happy yet also looking nicely decorated with blossoms.

The more exotic they are the better. One of the big trends is towards succulents. Succulents are usually musky green and dark violet in color which gives them quite a romantic feel. A good combination is aloe vera, echeveria, arristata and burro tail set on a bed of gray or silver river rocks. This fits in with a gray or silver wedding which is a hot theme for fall.

The reason this is so valuable is that it helps you get the creative juices flowing and design a wedding bouquet that is truly your own.

Basically once you go to the Build Your Bouquet part of the site you can move the flower heads around as if they were refrigerator magnets. What is really nice is that this site has also not just given you the usual baby’s breath and pink roses to play around with on here. There are also green fiddleheads, brambles with black berries, crimson miniature orchids and the very latest in designer wedding bouquet greenery. After you are done designing your bouquet you can save the image and take it to your florist to replicate in real life so you can carry it down the aisle.

Tuberoses are becoming popular again in bridal bouquets. We haven’t really heard much about this strong smelling flower since the seventies when they were all the rage. Tuberose is a sweet scent and very heavy. It is reminiscent of roses but much muskier and sweeter.

The flowers themselves are very attractive and look like elongated white, pink or red trumpets. They are considered an exotic tropical flower as they are mainly grown in Hawaii. In fact they are cultivated there for wedding celebrations and bouquets.

According to an article on Nutricraze, the ancient tradition for a Hawaiian wedding is for the bride and groom to wear flowers. The groom wears a maile lei, which is a native Kauai plant, while the bride wears a wreath of tuberose and pikaki flowers around her head called a haku. If you are having a Tiki style wedding on the beach complete with hanging lanterns and cocunuts then having the bride and groom wear tuberoses is the perfect idea.
